President Trump's First Amendment Violation with Twitter
It was ruled in May by a federal judge in Manhattan, that President Donald Trump cannot block Twitter users who don't agree with his tweets. The form of "blocking" someone from your social media account is unconstitutional and a violation of the First Amendment. Judge Naomi Reice Buchwald was the woman who ruled in favor of those who were blocked by Trump.
"The president's practice of blocking critics on Twitter is pernicious and unconstitutional, and we hope this ruling will bring it to an end," said Jameel Jaffer, the Knight Institute's executive director. This institute represented seven different individuals who had been blocked by the President Donald Trump. I believe since the Twitter account is a "public forum" under our First Amendment that everyone's rights should be valid. Everyone should be able to express what they agree or disagree with President Donald Trump saying on twitter without their First Amendment rights being taken away in the process.
Overall, I learned that many of us are constantly breaking the first amendment laws on social media by blocking our "ex boyfriends" or "ex girlfriends" or just "ex friend." In this way, we are taking away their first amendment rights and it isn't fair to do so. Especially in the President's place, one can't block the public because he is the one who is in charge of our country, we should be able to all see publicly what his opinion's are. Even if they are constantly being tweeted about on a silly social network.
